BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Athletic Association (BAA) celebrated World Running Day with a new logo.

The BAA joined forces with Bank of America to announce that they will put $500 million towards non-profit organization over the next decade. They also said that they are committed to “welcoming 10,000 new runners into the sport” with community programming over the same period.

“Between our mass participatory events and our support of philanthropic organizations, we aim to spearhead continued growth and enthusiasm around the sport of running while supporting those around us,” said BAA President and CEO Jack Fleming in a statement.

The announcement also came with the unveiling of a brand new logo, keeping the unicorn “Spike” as the mascot but making the symbol “forward-facing” by having it point northeast. The change in direction also reflects the route of the Boston Marathon from start to finish.

“As we continue to evolve as an organization, the new emblem symbolizes this forward movement with our partners and reinforces our dedication to our mission of promoting healthy lifestyles for generations to come,” said Fleming.
