BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hundreds of Boston Avis workers rallied outside Avis Budget Group's regional headquarters in East Boston Saturday afternoon.

According to the workers' union IUE-CWA Local 201, the workers are demanding a fair contract from the rental car company that will boost wages, make healthcare more affordable, and implement a fair scheduling system.

"They want a $16 starting wage and we don't think that's sufficient after 17 percent inflation and everything that's been happening in the country, we want more on the table," union representative Adam Kaszynski told WBZ NewsRadio at the rally at 375 McClellan Hwy.

Workers are also upset at Avis recently reporting $12 billion in revenue and $3 billion in profits.

"It's not nice of them at all, not fair," said rental agent Leah. "I mean, they make over $3 billion and they are trying to get away with peanuts for us, why? We're the front face of the company."

The workers' contract with Avis expired on June 30, but received two 30-day extensions as the two sides attempt to reach a settlement.

WBZ's Mike Macklin reports.
