BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — If it's Memorial Day Weekend, you know it's time for Boston Calling. A staple event in the city, concertgoers around Massachusetts will gather at the Harvard Athletic Complex to listen to more than 50 performers over the weekend.
From big names like Luke Combs and Dave Matthews Band to local acts like Latrell James and Layzi, attendees will get their $361 worth of entertainment if they attend all three days. With such an eclectic lineup, one has to think there is a method to the organized and entertaining madness.
"We don't really try to do it. It kinda comes together, right? You book a headliner of a certain genre, so then you look at the other stage and say okay, what can give the person who might not like country," said Mike Snow, Boston Calling co-founder. "And you do that with the first three or four bands and then the rest you kinda slot in."
Boston Calling is known for introducing up-and-coming artists to the masses. Notable performers to grace the stage pre-stardom include Lizzo, Lorde, Vince Staples, and HAIM.
"You want to turn people on to new music, that's what a festival is about to us. So yeah, you see the lineup, you don't know maybe a third of it, maybe half of it, so that's why you have discovery of new music," said Snow.
The outdoor music festival also features over 25 food and drink options, visual arts, and a 100-foot Ferris wheel.
