BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Expect some stage changes at this year’s Boston Calling Music Festival, which kicks off Friday at the Harvard University Athletics Complex.

Festival organizer Mike Snow told WBZ NewsRadio that instead of the two red and green main stages, there will only be one this year: the green stage.

“We’ll make it so that both bands, one’s playing and one’s setting up, and it’ll function like two stages,” Snow said. “And at the end, the headliner will get the whole stage like they always do.”

He added that there will also be video walls set up on both sides of the stage. The merge of the red and green stages was aimed to help improve crowd traffic and congestion.

The blue stage near the Ferris wheel and orange stage that houses local acts are both returning as well.

Other changes to the festival include more water stations throughout the venue and an air-conditioned arena.

Luke Combs and Megan Moroney kick off the weekend as headliners, followed by the Fall Out Boys and Avril Lavigne on Saturday and Dave Matthews Band and Vampire Weekend on Sunday.
