BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — At an event on the waterfront in East Boston on Tuesday, August 19, Massachusetts Education Secretary Patrick Tutwiler is joining students, education leaders, and local legislators to celebrate record-breaking enrollment at summer learning programs across Boston.
The celebration is being held at Piers Park Sailing Center (PPSC), which is one of 250 summer programs in Boston’s 5th Quarter of Learning.
5th Quarter is a partnership between Boston After School & Beyond and the City of Boston that transforms local communities into classrooms by providing participants with academic and enrichment activities.
Founded in 1988, PPSC is an important part of Piers Park, an open community green space on the East Boston Waterfront.
The community-based center is an advocate for a clean Boston Harbor, while providing educational opportunities for youths and adults through its marine science and community sailing programs.
