BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Those who run small businesses in the Boston area and those who are interested in starting small businesses were invited to a “Resource Fair” at the Boston Public Library’s Copley Square Branch this week to get some advice and guidance.
“This is a way to get everybody in one room, and to leverage the power that’s there and support businesses,” said Aliesha Porcena, director of Small Business for the city’s Office of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion.

Porcena said that supporting small businesses is the key to their long-term success. She also told WBZ NewsRadio that while this is “small business week,” for her, it’s every week of the year.
“[Small businesses] are the backbone of our economy, they are the heartbeat, they employ our community, they give back so, I think that they are engrained in every part of our society and for us, our work is dedicated to supporting them to make sure they succeed.”
“So, we’re trying to make it easier for businesses [and] we’re trying to fill gaps, we’re trying to address barriers that we know have been there for some businesses,” Porcena also said.
