BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Celtics fans across Boston are disappointed after the team traded away another starter in Kristaps Porzingis, a day after trading away starting point guard Jrue Holiday.
The trades of Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks and Holiday to the Portland Trailblazers will save the team $180 million, but it has been a tough pill to swallow for many Bostonians. Those two players were key contributors during the Celtics’ 2023-24 championship season.
WBZ NewsRadio’s Chris Fama asked fans about the trades, many of whom said they are having a tough time agreeing with the direction the team has taken this offseason so far.
“Yeah, that was tough,” one Celtics fan said in displeasure. “I don’t think it’s going to be good for them. I don’t know the exact reason why they’re implementing these changes. The owner wants to save money.”
“I think it’s too bad we had to let him go, but the Celtics are trying to save money,” said another fan.
Some fans said they still have faith in President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens as they acquired guard Anfernee Simons and Massachusetts native Georges Niang in return for Porzingis and Holiday.
“Maybe he has something up his sleeve,” one hopeful fan claimed.
Although Stevens still has plenty of time before next season, many fans said they are still on edge with Jayson Tatum potentially out for the season with his Achilles injury, and rumors of more trades on the horizon.
