BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — If you're looking for ways to stay cool during the heat advisory this week, Boston Centers for Youth and Families might be the place for you.

Mayor Michelle Wu declared a heat emergency from Wednesday through Friday with temperatures expected to reach the high 90's. Boston Centers for Youth and Families locations are transformed into cooling centers when a heat emergency is declared.

With a water bottle and Gatorade in hand, Tom of South Boston decided the Curly Community Center was the perfect place to beat the heat after a stroll near the water.

"Oh, well, you're drinking lots of water, going for a walk along to shore, catching a little breeze and staying in the air conditioning when the walk is over."

The heat index is expected to range from 91 degrees to 97 degrees with little relief overnight. The threshold for a heat emergency in the city is two or more consecutive days with a heat index of 95 degrees.

"It's rather uncomfortable, but once you get down by the water, there's enough air where it makes it bearable and it beats being stuck in the house all day."

Splash pads and several city pools are also available throughout the city. And of course, the beach is always an option.

"Just drinking a lot of water, staying by the beach. I took a swim in the morning and yeah, that's pretty much it," one local said.
