BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The owner of Prezza in Boston knows that nothing brings people together like your grandmother's food.
As a tribute to the Netflix film, "Nonna," Chef Anthony Caturano is inviting Bay Staters to submit their grandmother's best Italian or Mediterranean recipes for their upcoming event, "The NONNA Dinner." The nostalgic event has potential contributors like Michelle from Boston reminiscing on their favorite moments and meals with their grandmother. Michelle says she fondly remembers a particular chicken pot pie recipe.
"I remember helping her knead the dough for the crust, breaking up the chicken," said Michelle. " We would have to help her do a lot of the things and those are some of my fondest memories of food, family and childhood."
Selected recipes will be featured as one of the five courses on Nonna's dinner menu at one of the three restaurants owned by Caturano. Entries can either be an appetizer, salad, entree, dessert or pasta.
"My grandmother used to make pasta called aglio olio. It's actually spaghetti and its oil and garlic and a little bit of hot peppers in it — delicious," remarked one resident.
Each dish must be submitted individually and as much as Chef Caturano appreciates a good sauce or gravy recipe, he isn't accepting them for this event. He insists that his Nonna's was the best.
As a way to honor the selected recipes, submissions must include your Nonna's name, the name of the dish and the history. Winners will also receive two complimentary tickets to enjoy the Sunday dinner at your selected restaurant. Mike from New Hampshire has a recipe from his great Nonno on the brain.
"We literally have a sourdough I think that was started by my great granddad. You take some of that starter out and you literally get the best pancakes you've ever had."
It will cost $100 per person for a chance to taste the best recipes from Nonna's around the state. All recipes must be submitted by September 1, 2025.
