BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Children’s Museum held a private event on Monday, June 2 to celebrate the opening of the Tot Café.
The café was created in partnership with Little Cocca Bean Company and spearheaded by the company’s founder and mother of 2, Tracy Skelly.
She talked about how accessibility was a major driving force of this spot.
“You will not need to pay to eat if you need a free meal,” Skelly said. “We wanted to do what we could to maintain strong business practices but also make our food accessible to all people.”
The initial goal was to raise enough funds for 7,000 free meals, but Skelly hopes that they can make free meals a permanent fixture at the café.
“The aim is that this is actually something that just becomes a non-issue, that no one considers giving kids free access to the museum without giving them access to food,” she said. “If we need to continuously raise funds to do it ourselves, we will.”

Mayor Michelle Wu was also present at the event, sharing her excitement in something she hopes brings people together in tough times.
“This is going to be a place where there will be little ones sitting with their moms and grandmas and dads and uncles, just enjoying being a part of what the city has to offer,” she said. “No matter how much stress and challenge there is in all the rest of the world, Boston will be that home for everyone.”
The café is set to open publicly in the next few weeks.
