BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn wants to ban motorized bikes in the city.
Flynn is calling attention to delivery drivers, who he says recklessly prioritize speed over safety. He claims third-party delivery drivers are exceeding 20 mph through stop signs and red lights, creating a "pedestrian safety crisis." Robert Hall of the South End agrees.
"They just don't have no respect. They have no respect. There's no other way to describe them," Hall stated. "If you could get rid of them suckers, get rid of them suckers."
Flynn recently introduced an amendment to an ordinance as a way to crack down on the delivery drivers' use of scooters, e-bikes, and mopeds. Several city councilors have expressed their opposition to the ban, saying it will negatively impact immigrant workers. Remy agrees with the opposition.

"We need something to keep on making money, so if that's the easiest way to like afford something like a moped, a bike, whatever, like if that's the easiest way of affording it, then I say let it stay."
Residents have filed multiple 311 complaints, including motorized bikes going the wrong way on roads, illegal parking, and bikers driving on sidewalks. While the motorized bikes seem to be a nuisance to some residents, others are conflicted about the best solution to the problem.
"No, not an outright ban, but more laws should be inflicted on them," one resident said.
