BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston City Hall played host to a singalong to mark the end of Good Neighbor Week on Thursday.

Good Neighbor Week is an annual city initiative intended to encourage acts of friendliness. It lasted from Sept. 28 through Oct. 10.

"In our current climate, we really want to make sure that people are able to build relationships, make connections with each other, and just be good people and good neighbors overall," Chief of Human Services José Massó said.

A group of city employees and passersby alike joined in to sing along to hits including "Lean On Me" and "Sweet Caroline."

Mel Stiller, who played piano at the event, has been leading singalongs in Boston for 35 years. Thirty of those years were at the old Jacob Wirth Restaurant.

Massó said the singalong was just one way to celebrate Good Neighbor Week. He suggested simple gestures like greeting neighbors and helping them with their trash as ways to take part in the initiative.
