BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — With Boston College classes starting this week, some students living off-campus had to get a bit creative about moving into school.

With most apartment leases beginning around Sept. 1 in Boston, many have to find other places to stay while they wait for their official move in day. Some planned ahead on where they were going to stay.

“I know some people who are in Airbnbs and now they’re moving in,” one junior said.

Other students had to be a bit more resourceful.

“I’ve heard people had to sleep on couches,” another junior said. “My friend had to go on a blow-up mattress in a senior’s dorm.”

This unfortunately is the best scenario for those that didn’t work out a deal with their landlord to move in early. One BC senior recounted a tough spot his friend found himself in.

“One of my friends actually got into his apartment a day early, and then the landlord came and kicked him out because he was squatting,” he said. “He actually slept on a park bench.”

Other students choose to move in on the first day of classes. Since it’s the first day of class, that means parents like Sarah and Chris are stuck with most of the moving.

“So far, she’s already at class, and it’s our 25th anniversary today, so this is how we’re spending our day,” Sarah said.

Most other colleges and universities in Greater Boston don’t start until after Labor Day.
