BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston College is telling its students to lay off the booze as the Boston Marathon approaches. The marathon route runs right by BC. In an email to the student body, university administrators said Boston and Newton Police had a "zero tolerance" policy for public drinking, especially during the race.

Open containers will be banned inside and outside of school dorms for the entire day, except in the Mods area of campus, where they'll be allowed between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Officials said local police are expected to crack down on bad behavior this year because they got a "significant number of complaints of community disturbances" during last year's marathon.

Up Commonwealth Avenue, Boston University is also giving out its own warnings. A Q-and-A with a university public health official urged students not to partake in the Blackout Rage Gallon (BORG) trend during Marathon Monday. Despite being billed as a "healthier" way to drink, the official said some recipes for the drinks call for 17 shots of alcohol.
