BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Common Frog Pond spray pool has reopened for the summer, with hundreds of children and families turning out to the opening on Tuesday.

The Frog Pond provides year-round, family-friendly activities including a summer spray and splash pool and an outdoor ice skating rink in the winter.

It’s managed by The Skating Club of Boston in a joint public-private partnership with the City of Boston.

The Boston Common Frog Pond's spray pool officially opened for the summer on Tuesday, and children and their families came out to enjoy the water under blue skies and sunshine.

It was “a lot of fun,” shared one kid. Another child said that on a scale of one to 10, the Frog Pond is a 10 in terms of fun.

At the event, vendors served free food and treats, and lifeguards monitored the splash pool to keep the hundreds of kids there safe, although the pool is only a few inches deep.

“It’s a benefit for families who are just looking for some routine and to be able to rely on a dependable, free place to take the kids for a little bit of time and know that they’ll be safe and have a great time,” said Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, who was at the opening with her children.

Wu enjoyed the Frog Pond with her young children, who were splashing around and getting soaked.

“I gave them strict instructions that they could go in the water if they didn’t get all the way wet. And that went out the window because not only are they soaked but I’m also wet from them,” she said.

“They had a great time. You can’t control it. And it’s part of being a kid and being a mom, so I love to see the smiles on their faces.”

The Frog Pond is open between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. every day until Labor Day.
