BRIGHTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The 2024 Olympic Opening Ceremonies start Friday in Paris, but in an alternate reality, Boston could have been the city hosting this year's two week spectacle. WBZ NewsRadio went to talk to Bostonians on how they would have felt if this happened.

It all goes back to 2015, when Boston was selected by the United States Olympic Committee to bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, but after much pushback and opposition, the city rescinded its bid to host the games.

WBZ NewsRadio spoke to Bostonians who didn’t exactly agree with the concept of Boston hosting the games, or the Olympics in general.

“Countries that can’t afford to feed their people are building hotels and lavish places? No, I don’t need the Olympics. It doesn’t represent what it should,” said one Boston resident.

“I just don’t agree with the Olympics," said another.

Others look at some of the logistical headaches associated with Boston hosting the games, specifically the challenges it would cause for drivers who already must deal with Boston traffic daily.

“Just all of the disruption to traffic and all the fallout from the spending on [the games],” added one disapproving resident.

“To be honest, I have no use for the Olympics,” added another.

Alternatively, some residents feel that it would have been a unique opportunity to watch the games up close if Boston hosted the games.

“It’d be good! I would love seeing it. Especially with all the colleges and stuff we could definitely host things,” said another resident.

Some are hopeful that Boston will try again to host the games in the future.
