BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Dance Studios located across the street from TD Garden is looking to raise $40,000 in funds to keep their doors open.
The studio opened 3 years ago and offers multiple dance classes to dancers of all experience but faces being shut down due to recent economic hardship.
This has happened due to the studio normally making a large part of its revenue by renting out space for local colleges to use, but due to budget cuts at some of these colleges they’ve had to back out.
“The school’s that we would normally have partnerships with like a Suffolk University, who would typically rent our space for a full year, [we currently don’t have], that’s a significant amount of budget that we lost,” said Owner Tara Brown.
The dance studio has received a lot of support from the community and has so far raised over half the amount of money needed, doing so in only 3 days.
Brown noted that her studio isn’t the only one struggling and spoke about the importance of keeping spaces like these open for the community.
“Dancers need a very specific type of space, when you’re talking about other branches of art it can be a little bit more versatile,” said Brown.
