Boston Defense Attorney Arrested On Rape Charges

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — UPDATE 6:45 p.m.: Zerola will remain held on this rape charge until a dangerousness hearing, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Rachel Rollins' office.

A local defense attorney who was being sought by authorities was arrested by Boston police Friday on charges of breaking and entering and rape.

49-year-old Gary Zerola, a former prosecutor in Suffolk and Essex counties who was once named 'most eligible bachelor' by People Magazine in the early 2000's, was arrested at around 12:50 p.m. Friday, according to BPD.

A warrant was issued for Zerola last week by Boston Municipal Court for rape and breaking and entering during the nighttime.

Zerola has been accused of rape at least four previous times; he was acquitted on two cases in Massachusetts in 2008 and one case in Florida, and he is still awaiting trial on two rape charges in Middlesex County from 2016, the Boston Globe reports.

Zerola is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court later Friday afternoon.
