BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A mid-summer heat wave is set to bake Greater Boston, starting on Tuesday. Temperatures will soar into the low 90's on Tuesday, but the worst of the weather will come mid-week.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Wednesday between 11:00 AM and 8:00 PM, with temperatures that feel close to 100 in Greater Boston, most of Eastern Mass, and the Pioneer Valley. To make matters worse, muggy humidity will roll in on Wednesday and Thursday to make those high temperatures feel stickier.
Cape Cod and the North Shore will get a reprieve from the worst of the weather and aren't included in the advisory.
The City of Boston has declared a heat emergency beginning on Tuesday, and has opened 12 cooling centers at BCYF facilities.
The NWS also says Tuesday carries the risk of severe thunderstorms in the afternoon.
