BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – Thousands of firefighters and first responders from around the country lined the streets of Boston to honor the life of fallen Firefighter Robert “Bobby” Kilduff Jr. as he was laid to rest Monday morning.

Kilduff died last week after falling from the third floor of a Dorchester building when battling a fire. Kilduff was a third-generation firefighter and was a member of the Boston Fire Department for 24 years. He was also a U.S. Marine Veteran.

A funeral mass was held at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in the South End. A fire truck with black bunting escorted his casket to the church.

Fellow firefighters, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Kilduff's, and his children spoke in his honor at the funeral. His daughter, Hannah Jane Kilduff, spoke about how proud she was of her dad.

“To know my dad was to love him,” she said. “I’m sure that every person in this room has their own story of a time when my dad showed up for them.”

Hannah Jane talked about all of the ways that her dad Bobby, or BK as his fellow Jake’s called him, never hesitated to help.

“My dad represents everything this world can be if we help each other," she said.

Following the mass, the procession took Kilduff past Rescue Company 2, his home fire station, before bringing him to his final resting place in Fairview Cemetery.
