Boston Firefighters Rescue Families, Pets From House Fire

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Fire Department rescued several residents, including a mother and two young children, from a burning building in South Boston Wednesday morning.

According to BFD, the two-alarm fire broke out shortly after 8 a.m. at a four-story multi-family home on West Newton Street.

Images from the scene showed smoke billowing from the lower-level windows. Photos also showed firefighters rescuing a woman and two young children from a top floor balcony, and several rescued pets.

The heavy fire was knocked down by around 8:30 a.m.

"There will be 8 people (2 children), 2 turtles, a cat & a dog displaced," BFD said. "Not all pets made it. No firefighters injured."
