BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Fans are getting ready to crowd into Citizens House of Blues in Boston for a performance from John Butler.
‘An Evening with John Butler with Band’ takes place Friday night, and doors open at one hour ahead of showtime at 8:00PM sharp.
There will be no opening act, it's a night full of John Butler and his amazing four-piece band.
John Butler's new album "Prism" has been well received nationwide. Butler told WBZ NewsRadio's Drew Moholland that seeing an instant reaction to an album is a great feeling.
"Usually fans like your new album,” said Butler. “By the time you release your next album. They get to know it."
Butler said the music industry can be strange, considering popularity plays a big factor.
“[Success is] determined on whether people like what you do or not," said Butler. “[Writing music for me is] a practice, almost a spiritual practice."
Butler has never been shy about discussing politics and social issues, but on this tour he says it's the music doing the work.
"I am saying most of the things I want to say in the songs," said Butler. “I feel like in a lot of ways the American public needs a bit of a hug, they need a bit of ointment of the wound that they’ve been going through.”
Butler is Australian but was born in California and says he loves this country, and while he always wears his heart on his sleeve, he's trying not to create anymore friction.
As for New England, John Butler said he has always loved it here. While doing a show in Portland, Maine earlier in April, he and his drummer spoke about the “realness” of New Englanders.
“It’s a real kind of ‘suffer no fools, down-to-earth-ness,” said Butler. “If you’re a good guy, you’re a good guy. If you’re not coming on straight, they’ll let you know as well.”
