BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The City of Boston has issued a heat advisory from Thursday, Aug. 6 through Saturday, Aug. 8. due to forecasts for high heat and humidity.
The heat index on these days is supposed to reach between 95 and 98 degrees and there will be little relief in the overnight hours.
"Stay hydrated, limit time outdoors during the hottest parts of the day, and look out for your neighbors; it can make all the difference," said Brooke Amendola, Executive Director of Emergency Management, in a statement.
Pools and splash pads are open throughout the city for people to cool off. A list of pools and splash pads that are open can be found on the city's website.
Boston Public Library locations are open and air-conditioned for anyone looking for relief from the heat. They're open for normal business hours. Boston Centers for Youth and Families community centers are also open and air-conditioned. They're open for normal business hours and a list of locations can be found on the BCYF website.
The city advises residents to stay hydrated, even if they're not thirsty, check on elderly neighbors or those with disabilities and avoid being outdoors as much as possible if they can. If you have air conditioning, make sure the unit is plugged into the wall and not an extension cord or power strip, as that can cause a fire.
More information can be found on the city's website.
