BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — As the only Boston Public School with a varsity golf program, the students at Boston Latin School had the opportunity to learn from some big names on Thursday.

Boston Common Golf visited the school to kick off their new season, and they didn’t come empty-handed.

Over 2,000 hats, tailored equipment, free swing evaluations, and club fittings were offered to student golfers at the event, and Boston Common Golf President and CEO Mark Lev didn’t stop the surprises there.

“And then our partners at TaylorMade are going to be giving each of you guys one of the new QR-35 Drivers, so those are going to be coming,” Lev announced to students.

Along with the new swag, students also had the opportunity to try out a mobile golf simulator alongside Megan Khang, a member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association and Boston Common Golf ambassador.

Being a former Rockland resident herself, Khang spoke to student golfers about the support and future they can have in a sport like golf.

“I’m very proud to be from Massachusetts, and so whether you guys decide to pursue golf for a professional or just kind of keep it as a tool to get further along in your careers, I mean, it’s something that can go a long way,” said Khang.
