DORCHESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Little Saigon opens its youth-operated frozen yogurt pop-up in Dorchester this weekend.

The pop-up called Saigon Swirl will operate out of the former Reign Drink Lab space on Dorchester Avenue starting Sunday, Aug. 11 through Sunday, Aug. 25.

As a collaboration between Boston Little Saigon, Reign, and the Pho Hoa Restaurant next door, Saigon Swirl stems from Boston's Immigrant Youth Advancement Program, which tasked a group of teens to come up with a summer business venture within a three-week deadline.

"They got together and they came up with this idea to open up a frozen yogurt shop in Dorchester, because there isn’t one," said Tam Le, Pho Hoa owner and Boston Little Saigon board member.

Le said the idea seemed a bit daunting to the kids at first, especially with the tight deadline, but those fears were soon allayed.

"We asked, 'We’ve got three weeks, do you think you can do this?' And one of the students was like, 'No,'" Le said. "And so with everything that came up, we were able to find a solution for everything. So by the end of that meeting, [we asked] that same person, 'Well do you think we can do it now?' She was like, 'Yes.'"

The menu at Saigon Swirl offers a twist on the tasty treat, with ingredients like Vietnamese and Thai tea, boba, chocolate and strawberry Pocky, mochi bits, coconut flakes, and more.

All profits from the pop-up will be donated back to Boston Little Saigon to fund future programming.
