BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Athletic Association said early Monday that reigning Wheelchair Division champion Marcel Hug had dropped out of the Boston Marathon. Neither the organization nor the Swiss athlete's team have publicized the reason for the sudden withdrawal.

Hug is a five-time winner of the Marathon in the Wheelchair Division, including last year's race in October. Hug won the B.A.A 5k on Saturday. The B.A.A also announced that Sho Watanabe of Japan has withdrawn — Watanabe finished ninth at last year's marathon.
