Boston Marathoners Are Getting Ready To Head To The Starting Line

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The 129th Boston Marathon is on Monday, and runners from all over are here getting ready.

Some at Copley Square told WBZ NewsRadio that the Boston Marathon is one of the most special.

“Boston has my heart,” Barnell said. She’s here all the way from Canada for Monday’s race. This will be her fifth time running in the Boston Marathon and said the city feels like her second home.

“Boston is very welcoming,” she added. “It’s a slightly bigger version of our city in Saskatoon, [Canada].”

Michael of Jacksonville, Fla is also a returning participant this year. He said that the people and culture of Boston just does it differently.

“It’s just such an enjoyable race,” he continued. “This is the first major marathon that I’ve done, and it just keeps wanting me to come back.”

Thousands of people are expected to out on the streets, supporting the runners along the route.

“it just seem like the whole city comes together for the race, and it’s really cool to see,” Michael added.

Road closures and barriers will start being put up at around 6 a.m. Monday.
