BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Mayor Michelle Wu announces a big change, but not for the City of Boston.
On Monday, Mayor Wu announced that she is pregnant with another child that is due in January. According to the Boston Globe, her third child will be her first girl.
“It’s maybe a new experience for the city, but [it's] not new for me,” said Wu.
Although Wu is the first mayor in the city’s history to be expecting while in office, she has experience balancing motherhood and work from her time on the City Council.
“I’ve had two kids while in office and it’s certainly sometimes a chaotic and messy juggle, but one that we see families across the city doing their very best to balance. [It’s] on all of us to make it easier and more supported for working families to be able to do what they need to do because that’s how we all benefit,” said Wu.
As for taking time off for maternity leave, Wu said it is too early to set a date.
“This is a couple of months away and each pregnancy is unique and different as I’m already learning, so we’ll certainly make a decision closer to when we can welcome the little one and I will continue to talk to my family and doctor and make the best choice for what’s right for us,” said Wu.
