BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — At an event in Mattapan, Mayor Michelle Wu pushed back on the Trump Administration’s ‘Operation Patriot 2.0,’ their continued mass deportation efforts.

She said the city had been kept in the dark on the movements and activities of federal agents, and inquiries regarding the legality of their work on gone unanswered.

“ICE has refused to provide basic information about who is being detained, why, and where they are taking them,” Mayor Wu said. “We have requested through the Freedom of Information Act, now over several months, basic detail just to understand whether the actions have been fully within the bounds of the law and the Constitution.”

Mayor Wu said she believes Boston has been in the crosshairs of the Trump Administration since the beginning of the year. Wu continues to call Boston the safest major city in America, in part because undocumented immigrants feel safe enough to talk to local police.

“They are wrong on the law, and they are wrong on safety,” the mayor said. “This is why Boston has been the target since even before the Trump Administration was sworn into office in January.”

The mayor reiterated her and the city’s stance that Boston Police do not cooperate with these federal ICE agents, which is laid out more officially in the Boston Trust Act.

The act is the driving reason behind the federal lawsuit filed by the Trump Administration last week, which says that the mayor is putting the public in danger for not allowing for federal law enforcement. Mayor Wu’s response: “We will not yield.”
