BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) Boston Mayor Michelle Wu will testify at a congressional hearing on Boston’s sanctuary policies next month, according to the House Committee on Government Oversight and Reform.

Wu will testify on March 5 along with the mayors of Chicago, Denver and New York CIty.

In a statement to WBZ NewsRadio, Wu said “"I have accepted the Committee’s invitation to share our work to make Boston the safest major city in America. The Boston Police Department partners every day with community groups and all levels of law enforcement to protect our city and our residents, and I look forward to highlighting their hard work and successes.

“I thank Congresswoman Pressley and Congressman Lynch, who serve on the committee, and the entire Massachusetts federal delegation, for their partnership in fighting for families in Boston and across the Commonwealth.”

Republican Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, the committee’s chairman, launched an investigation last week into sanctuary cities around the country. In a letter to Wu, Comer said Boston “refuses to fully cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.”

“Sanctuary mayors owe the American people an explanation for city policies that jeopardize public safety and violate federal immigration law by releasing dangerous criminal illegal aliens back onto the streets,” Comer said in a statement.
