BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Plans to demolish and rebuild White Stadium could take one big step forward on Monday.

The Boston Parks Commission will soon vote on whether to approve the demolition of White Stadium in Franklin Park so the renovation process can start. The vote is set to take place at a commission hearing at 10:00 a.m. on Monday.

The vote comes as local grassroots organizations and some residents push for a delay, asking the state to review the legality of the project and its environmental impact on the community.

The Garrison Trotter Neighborhood Association and the Emerald Necklace Conservancy sent a letter to state and city leaders, saying it is problematic that changes to the park would not require state environmental review. City officials have denied that the renovation plan is not legally compliant.

The Franklin Park Coalition, a different grassroots organization that advocates for the park, said it now approves of the plan after initially raising concerns.

The plans for demolition were proposed by Boston Unity Soccer Partners and Boston Public Schools.
