Boston Police Crack Down On ATVs, Off-Road Revelers In City

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The City of Boston is through with out-of-town dirt bikes, ATVs, and whatever off-road vehicle tearing rubber through downtown streets at all hours of the day.

Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox warned any revelers to avoid coming to Boston to drag race this summer.

"Right now we're telling people not to come and do that— it's illegal," Cox said.

Enforcement ramped up last year as hordes of people dominated the streets with vehicles built to ride on dirt ramps, not on-ramps.

"We are getting more people involved because the issue is not really going away. This is not the reveler place to be, and they will find out if they come," Cox said.

In April, the Back Bay neighborhood saw this first-hand on Marlborough Street. At roughly 2 a.m. drivers held a race with tires screeching on the asphalt. More recently Boston Police arrested seven people and towed a handful of cars near White Stadium.
