BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Boston police officer was injured and two men were arrested outside MGM Music Hall on Wednesday night.
Officers working a security detail were helping to remove a man from the venue at around 9:50 p.m., according to Boston police.
The man, identified as Edwin Rivera of Mashpee, started to get combative as he was being escorted out, according to police.
At the Lansdowne Street exit, police said Rivera threw a beverage and swung at an officer, then grabbed onto the officer’s jacket and attempted to pull him toward the sidewalk.
Rivera then reached for an officer’s firearm before being taken to the ground and handcuffed, according to police.
At the same time, police said another man was yelling at officers and tried to hit one of the officers who had fallen. The man, identified as Steven Costa of Hyannis, was then tased and placed under arrest.
One officer was taken to the hospital for his injuries, according to police.
Both Rivera and Costa are facing charges of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace, among other charges. Rivera is also charged with assault and and battery with a dangerous weapon on a police officer.
The men are set to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
