BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Boston police officer fired their gun during an encounter with a “vicious” dog near the Boston Marathon finish line on Thursday morning.

Boston police said they responded to a call for a removal at around 9:22 a.m. outside the Boston Public Library on Boylston Street.

Police said the dog tried to attack an officer, and an officer fired a gun to “gain control” of the dog, but the shot missed the dog.

The dog then ran away from Boylston Street, and police said they tried to tase the dog multiple times, before successfully subduing the dog near Downtown Crossing.

The incident happened while crews were painting the marathon finish line.

"It was loud enough to make me turn around and see what was going on," said Justin Kuo, who was standing near the finish line at the time. "Then we saw the two officers standing back there with tasers ready to go. Then they pushed us all back."

Police said no injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made. Boylston Street was shut down between Dartmouth and Exeter streets because of the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
