BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio)  Boston Police are warning people over a rise in reports of phone theft throughout the city.

Phone theft has been reported at nightclubs and bars late at night in areas such as Downtown, Back Bay, Fenway and Seaport.

The thefts have been reported mostly during the hours of 11:30p.m. to 2 a.m.

Police say that various tactics are being used in order to steal people’s phones.

They say suspects have been stealing phones during or after ride shares by offering unsolicited rides and threatening violence to scare people into giving up their device.

Another tactic sees suspects watching victims put their passwords into their phones and then asking the victim if they can borrow their phone.

Police also noted that pickpockets have also surged in busy locations as well.
