CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — As President Donald Trump takes hold of the Oval Office for a second time, a Northeastern University professor is spreading a message of hope to those who identify as part of the LGBTQIA + community.
On the official website of the White House, it states that it is “the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female.”
The statement ostracized individuals who identify as intersex, like Dr. AC Goldberg.

“[Intersex individuals] are born with differences in chromosomal, hormonal, or anatomical features,” Goldberg said.
He added that intersex individuals have fought hard to be recognized—offering words of hope for those who may be affected by the recent language from the White House.
“We have always been here; we were transgender before anyone told us we had any rights; we have been intersex for all of time, there is no way to erase us from society.”
President Trump’s Inauguration address on Monday claiming that there are only “two genders, male and female”, Goldberg said that it was a demonstration of ignorance.
“What we have here is an example of ignoring science and ignoring two percent of the population that happens to be intersex. Intersex is as common as having red hair,” Goldberg added.
Goldberg is the founder of The CREDIT Institute, a non-profit that works to advance equity and understand minorities’ experiences through education and awareness.
For those who need support, Goldberg encouraged people to check out groups like The Trevor Project and The Dads Foundation.
