Boston, Providence Make List Of 10 Most Walkable U.S. Cities For Tourists

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two of New England's most prominent cities have received plaudits for their walkability for tourists.

A new ranking from USA Today 10Best published last month listed ten U.S. cities that are considered the best for walking around while visiting. The list was selected by a panel of travel experts and voted on by readers.

Boston came in sixth on the list. Described as a "walking city that’s fun to explore on foot," USA Today 10Best praised Beacon Hill, the North End, Back Bay, and Harvard Square as walkable parts of the city for visitors to explore.

Nearly clinching the top spot was Providence, which finished second.

"During your visit to Providence, enjoy a stroll along the river and snap a photo by the pedestrian bridge, shop along the city's cobblestone streets, and check out all the murals and public art on display throughout downtown," the city's blurb reads.

Philadelphia took top honors as the number one ranked city on the list.

  4. St. Augustine, Florida
  5. New Orleans, Florida
  6. Boston, Massachusetts

  10. St. Louis, Missouri
