Boston Public Library Releases Its List Of Most Popular Books For 2024

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) —  The Boston Public Library released its BPL wrapped on Wednesday, revealing some of the most popular reads of 2024.  

By all indication, it was a very successful year, with 6.6 million items lent and close to 150,000 new library cardholders.  

“The numbers prove that people are reading more and really coming to the library to look for diverse stories [and] stories that reflect the world,” Melissa Andrews, BPL’s Chief of Collection Management, said.  

So, what was the most checked out book this year? Romance novel “Happy Place” by Emily Henry took the top spot. In fact, the romance genre, along with memoirs, dominated the list. 

“Books that show how you interact with family, how you interact with friends,” Andrews added.  

Here’s BPL’s top 10 most checked out books for 2024: 

  • “Happy Place,” Emily Henry 
  • “Lessons In Chemistry,” Bonnie Garmus 
  • “Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow,” Gabrielle Zevin 
  • “The Woman in Me,” Britney Spears  
  • “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” Jennette McCurdy 
  • “The Women”, Kristin Hannah  
  • “Tom Lake”, Ann Patchett 
  • “Fourth Wing”, Rebecca Yarros 
  • “Spare,” Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex  
  • “It Starts with Us,” Colleen Hoover
