BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston School Committee approved the closure of more public schools across the city Wednesday night.

Despite protests from families and educators, the board voted 6-1 in favor of closing Lee Academy, a Pre-K through third grade school, and two high schools, Community Academy of Science and Another Course To College.

Board member Rafaela Polanco Garcia voted against the closures. The three schools will cease operations in June 2027.

An additional grade level will also be added to the William E. Russell School, which currently serves Pre-K through fifth grade. The move follows recommendations from Mayor Michelle Wu's administration citing declining enrollment as one of the main issues.

Earlier this year, BPS Superintendent Mary Skipper said that the closures should help the district save millions of dollars that will be used elsewhere in the system.

The move will impact thousands of students.
