BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Red Sox are proving to be more than just superstars on the diamond.

Players Kristian Campbell, Manny Delcarmen, Carlos Narvaez, along with Wally the Green Monster, front office staff, and more than 50 volunteers helped renovate the Boston Centers for Youth and Families' Hyde Park Community Center.

They helped plant flowers, painted rooms, build gardens, and create additional spaces for people to enjoy.

The community center caters to people of all ages and demographics, but Johnnie Kindell, the community center director, knows that the renovation means a lot to the younger generation.

"To come make the place that's already special to a bunch of young people, even more special."

The community center has been around since 1972. In 2001, what was known as the Boston Community School was renamed Boston Centers for Youth and Families. It is the largest human services agency for the City of Boston.
