BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Powerball jackpot has risen to a staggering $930 million after no one took home the prize on Monday.
The colossal jackpot is currently the 7th biggest Powerball jackpot in history.
The last time someone won the game’s jackpot was back in September, when two tickets purchased in Texas and Missouri split the more than $1.7 billion prize, the second biggest total in history.
According to Powerball, the chances of winning the prize are 1 in 292.2 million but that isn’t stopping some Boston hopefuls from purchasing a ticket.
“I’m going to take my shot,” said one woman.
“I’ll drop probably $10 bucks,” said one man.
“I’ll do a quick pick with it,” said another woman.
However, some say they aren’t going to buy a ticket and will be saving their money instead.
“I don’t’ want to bet on the lottery,” said one local. “No, [I’m] just taking care of the wife and the kids, straight up old school,” he added.
“I just wouldn’t waste my money doing it,” said another man.
“I never play Powerball,” said one resident.
With the possibility of a winner claiming the prize during the holiday season, that has some even more excited with the idea of winning.
“It would be a great Merry Christmas,” said one woman.
Whoever wins the jackpot can choose between the lump sum payment or an annuity option, which would grant the winner one instant payment followed by 29 annual payments that will increase by 5% each year.
