Boston Restaurant Community Launches "Step Up To The Table" Challenge

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The foodie community has a new approach to supporting local restaurants during the pandemic, through a challenge on social media.

The Lyons Group, who own several eateries in the Boston area, have teamed up with other big names in the food and beverage industry to launch the "Step Up to the Table" challenge.

To participate in the challenge, restaurant lovers can buy a few gift cards to their favorite local places, make a post about it on social media channels like Instagram or Facebook and challenge three others to do the same.

Ryan Jones, the Vice President of Operations for the Lyons Group said the pandemic has been especially devastating for local restaurants.

“You know its typically a really slow time of year regardless," he said. "But with everything that’s going on, we just felt like [the challenge] was a great cause to get involved with.”

Jones added that seeing people "pull together" to participate in the challenge has been great to see in the industry.

“There’s been so much negative news for the last 10 months, so introducing positive things like this certainly helps,” Jones said.

Some celebrities have already showed their support, including Gladys Knight, Snoop Dogg and Patriots Captain Matthew Slater, who challenged Julian Edelman & the McCourty twins.
