BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Public Schools are closed for a snow day as the city faces its first real snow storm of the year. The City of Boston is under a Winter Storm Warning from the National Weather Service, which is expected between 5 and 8 inches of snow for the area.

Boston Schools announced the snow day on Thursday morning.

The district has been dealing with widespread staffing issues in the last week. The Boston system had 650 teachers teachers out sick on Wednesday, according to the State House News Service. The staff is stretched so thin that Superintendent Brenda Cassellius had to teach an elementary school class on Wednesday.

A couple of other school districts around the state have also already closed, like Lynn and Hudson.
