BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Seaport launched a loyalty program and a phone app that rewards those who spend time and money in the neighborhood.

Vice President of Brand and Experience for Boston Seaport Ariel Foxman explained how on the surface, Seaport Insider operates like any other loyalty program.

"Think of your favorite loyalty app and program, this is neighborhood wide,” Foxman said. “The way it works is you download the app, and you just start spending at any of our participating restaurants, retailers, entertainment venues, even parking.”

According to Foxman, however, what sets this program apart is that you can also earn free points by just going to the Seaport and participating in events.

“You come to the neighborhood, you open up the app, you get 25 points a day, just by being here. It’s our thank you to you for coming and making Seaport part of your every day,” he said. “If you come to any of our events, like our fitness series Seaport Sweat or our kids series Seaport Smalls or any of our one-off parties or events, there’s a QR code at that event, you scan it, you get points.”

For every dollar that you spend, you earn a point. This amount increases to two points per dollar spent after you earn 3,600 points.

Points can be spent to get discounts on purchases and special offers from any of the participating restaurants and retailers, of which Foxman says there are currently 30.

“It’s really unique, in that folks are coming together to reward people for using the neighborhood,” he said.
