BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston is one of four cities that will be represented in the inaugural season of the Women's Pro Baseball League next spring, the league announced Tuesday. The other three cities are Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York.
According to a WPBL press release, the cities were chosen based on several factors, including market size and their roles in the history of baseball.
“Each of these cities are storied sports cities and we can’t wait to connect with the fans who live there and baseball fans across the country,” WPBL Co-Founder Justine Siegel said in the press release.
It is still not clear where the teams will play. According to the league's website, the first season will take place at "one or two" venues, which have yet to be announced.
The WPBL's inaugural season is scheduled to start in May, 2026. It will include a four-week regular season, a one-week all-star break and two weeks of playoffs.
Rosters will be determined during the league's first draft in November. More than 600 players tried out over the summer, the top 100 of which advanced to the draft. Among those 100 players is Katherine Murphy, 19, of Belmont, Mass.
