BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The city of Boston announced a Summer Job Fair is taking place on Saturday providing students the opportunity to connect with more than 100 companies and businesses searching for workers.

The program set a record last year by connecting teen students to more than 10,000 summer jobs.

The event Saturday will take place at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

Boston Public Schools Superintendent Mary Skipper said this is the first step towards creating a future for students.

“Summer jobs really are life-changing for students. It gives them exposure and experience to areas of industries that they may have interest in, or they may not have even thought about,” Skipper said. “Getting to attend, whether it’s setting foot in a business or setting foot within a laboratory, they get to see something that often sparks something life-changing for them.”

Representatives with more than 10,000 job opportunities will be available to mingle with students and help identify their areas of interest.

City and school officials said these opportunities can offer students more than just a paycheck.

“They get to meet other students... and there’s deep collaboration with their fellow peers around finding students with other areas of interest. And they get to meet mentors,” Skipper said. “It’s about investing in our young people and helping to change their lives in a positive way.”
