BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Monday, Boston University announced that all employees and affiliates must be vaccinated against Covid-19 by September 2, 2021.

The school already announced that all students returning to campus for the fall semester must be vaccinated.

"It is critically important that our faculty and staff are also vaccinated," said President Robert A. Brown in a letter to faculty and staff.

He added they hoped to accomplish their goal of community-wide vaccination without a mandate but were forced to require it after not meeting their goal.

A survey done by the University found that 71.3% of faculty and 73.6% of staff are currently or will be vaccinated by August 1.

Officials say they will accept exemptions for both staff and students for medical conditions or religious beliefs.

The school will offer walk-in vaccination clinics on the Charles River Campus.
