EAST BOSTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Officials have unveiled a new and improved 2-1-1 HelpSteps system that allows residents to access services in multiple languages by entering their zip codes into the app.

The project manager for the Boston Public Health Commission, Pharedy Berret says 2-1-1 HelpSteps is now up and running.

For Boston residents, she was at the East Boston Public Library, giving a demonstration of how the system works .

She said the goal of the program is to give residents more opportunity to help themselves. “It’s a free tool, a nice resource available to all,” she said. “People can access it through the app or the web site, and they can get the resources that they need.”

As an example, if someone needs food assistance, they go to 2-1-1 HelpSteps, type in ‘Food,’ put in their location/zip code, and they will receive food resources information closest to their location.

2-1-1 HelpSteps is available throughout Massachusetts.
