BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston residents are casting their votes in the preliminary election on Tuesday, determining which mayoral and City Council candidates will appear on the ballot in November’s election.

In the mayor’s race, incumbent Mayor Michelle Wu leads her opponent, Josh Kraft, by nearly 50 points, according to the latest Emerson College survey.

However, some voters in Boston felt apathetic Tuesday morning.

“I’m not inspired by any of the candidates,” one resident told WBZ NewsRadio.

Another voter said this local election is reminiscent of the presidential election. “We know how it’s going in this city,” he continued. “It’s sort of like the presidential race here, we’re a blue state.”

Meanwhile, another resident said he is staying hopeful for a good turnout.

“I hope people pay attention, realize what is going on in the city,” he added. “I hope people try to make it better.”

Poll locations are open at 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. To check the closest voting station, head to the City of Boston Polling Locations list or the Massachusetts Secretary of State’s website here.
