BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Wednesday is the day to put your best foot forward.

April 2 is National Walking Day and health experts are encouraging people to get their steps in. According to the American Heart Association, walking daily can help reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes and contribute towards weight loss.

WBZ NewsRadio’s James Rojas asked Bostonians how they feel walking around the city.

“You feel safe. People, especially cab drivers, will always watch out for you and let you cross the road. I’ve never had a problem,” said one man.

“It depends on the weather. Today is not a good day, but most times it’s really nice,” said another man.

“You can get to everything pretty quickly,” said one woman.

“It’s pretty safe. You can get to all the major teaching hospitals. It’s pretty good,” said another woman.

When asked about the cobblestone and the sidewalks, most said they have never had any issues.

“No, I think that makes it very beautiful. It’s part of the history of the city,” said one woman.

“Yeah, the sidewalks are a little tough sometimes [and] the bricks,” said one man.

“That’s old Boston for you, you know? It’s what makes us us,” said another man.
